Welcome to Melgeorge's Elephant Lake Lodge and Resort Melgreorges Elephant Lake Lodge and Resot was carved out of the timberlands at a logging camp site on the shore of Elephant Lake near Orr, MN over 70 years ago, and has been operated by the Melgeorge family since then. Its humble beginning, with a few cabins for fishermen, has grown into an all-seasons resort with a bar, restaurant and eight room lodge. The lake can be fished using small craft in bad weather as it is about 1 by 2 miles with many bays and a large island in the middle. Frequently our guests catch their limits of walleyes, small mouth bass, crappies, bluegills and northern pike. Sportspersons of all kinds including small and large game hunters, snowmobilers, ice fisherman, bikers, and hikers now also use our resort as their base camp. Repeat business is a measure of success in the resort business and some guests and their families have vacationed with us for over 50 years.
For diversion from sporting activities, among other things, our guests visit the Bear Sanctuary in Orr, the Falls of the Vermillion River, Voyageur’s National Park (only 25 miles via two snowmobile routes), Ely and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Minnesota Museum of Mines in Chisholm, or shop for Canadian woolens in Fort Frances, Ontario. Keep a watchful eye and you may see wildlife such as moose, bear, bald eagles, or wolves and it will be hard for you to miss the small deer herd that wanders through the resort.
Melgeorge's bar, restaurant, and lodge has a lumbering motif and a nearby non-housekeeping cabin is actually a renovated log cabin that was a part of the original logging camp. Our ten housekeeping cabins (three are new and all are upgraded) are uniquely furnished as they as they are individually owned and part of a Common Interest Community. You can get up early, watch a magnificent sunrise over Elephant Lake and engage in your favorite sport, or just sleep in and do absolutely nothing but connect with your family/friends, listen to the loon’s cry, breathe the fresh air, and enjoy the Northwoods.
